In 1903, paleontologists sank the name Brontosaurus, assigning all specimens to Apatosaurus. However, a 2015 study by Tschopp, Mateus, and Benson analysed over 400 skeletal features and found that Brontosaurus is indeed a valid, distinct genus from Apatosaurus. The name was officially restored to scientific use.
